ODA’s Annual Spring Meeting 2014 (May 8 – 10)
HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR EXPERIENCES AT THE ASM Series – Part 1
Visitors at the Dental Practice Safety booth during the ASM over the last few days had a great opportunity to address some of their most pressing questions and pick up some free information and samples. The most common question remains:
How do we get started?
One of the challenges is that dentists want a simple answer when one may not be available. Each practice experiences different situations, is at various stages of the health and safety program implementation process while other practices have conducted some safety training, for instance. So, a brief discussion determining the accomplishments and plans for each office lays the foundation for determining the unique health and safety needs of each practice. Fortunately during the ASM we were able to have some of these more thorough conversations with conference attendees.
There was a broad range of experiences brought forward. Whereas, one practice was not aware of their legal obligation to conduct WHMIS training, another practice was scheduling an annual WHMIS refresher program. Many practices were not aware of their obligation to conduct worker awareness health and safety training by July 2014.
To assist with the numerous questions we received, we were able to spend time with visitors and review a customized plan using our recently developed Dental Safety Compliance Checklist. This provided them with a skeletal road map identifying and planning what steps should be considered when getting started with the health and safety program for their unique situation.
If you missed our booth or weren’t able to be at the ASM dental conference please give us a call, so that we can review the distinct requirements in providing safety solutions for your dental office.
