WHMIS for the Dental Professional

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System training is required by law for everyone working in dental practices.

The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is a national system to identify workplace hazardous materials and provide safety information pertaining to them. Workers have the legislated right to know what hazards they are dealing with and how to protect themselves from illness and injury. The purpose of this comprehensive training program is to increase the basic knowledge and understanding of the concepts of WHMIS as it relates to dental practices.

Course Content

  • Intent of WHMIS legislation and legal responsibilities
  • Detailed examination of the 6 classifications of controlled products
  • Identifying workplace hazardous materials through WHMIS symbols and labels
  • Understanding Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) with operational relevancy
  • Common hazards, routes of entry and harmful effects of hazardous materials
  • Controls required to eliminate/reduce/prevent harmful exposures
  • Typical emergency procedures to use in response to exposure and accidental release
  • Interactive exercises, participant review and assessment

This is a comprehensive 2 to 2.5-hour classroom program held at your location.
