Training Option for Employers
There are many web-based training options available to employers today. In this growing digital age many employers are turning to e-learning to satisfy their training needs, but instructor-led face-to face classes are still the best way to deliver information. According to an article in SP&T News about the rise of e-learning, employers still prefer to do more face-to-face training because attendees tend to be more attentive during in class sessions.
Many safety training courses are offered online such as WHMIS, Worker Safety Awareness, Supervisor Safety Awareness and Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC). As these particular courses do not require a practical component, online learning may be preferred. However for safety training programs like Working at Heights, Lift Truck and Elevating Work Platform which do require practical evaluation’s instructor based hands on learning is the most viable option.
In fact, the MOL’s new Working at Heights/Fall Protection’s training standard includes hands-on training on fall-arrest equipment. E-learning will no longer be an accepted method for construction workers who work at Heights.
While online training may be a more flexible and economical training option for employers, in-class safety training is still the preferred way to ensure properly trained employees for many.
